The OSHS Physical Activity Plan
1. The Bobcats incorporate their 20 minutes of physical activity into the lunch time each day.
2. The students can be seen walking each day.
- If the weather permits, students walk outdoor on the track in the park.
- If the weather is inclement, the students walk in the gym.
3. Sometimes, intramural activity can replace the walking during that 20 minute activity time.
Youth Leadership Advisory Board/P-3 Club at Oliver Springs High School
Oliver Springs High School is one of two high schools piloting a new program called the Youth Leadership Advisory Board. These students are responsible for planning and implementing programs for peers with positive messages. OSHS is currently working with a local movie writer/producer to create a short movie that can be used in schools throughout this county and stresses anti-tobacco use.
Drama Class Shoots For An Oscar
The Drama Class is writing script and commercials for a film they are making as a class project. The film, when complete, will be used to educate peers and middle school students about the dangers of tobacco use.
The video is funded from a grant sponsored by the Anti-Drug Coalition and in conjunction with the Roane County Health Department and the Roane County Coordinated School Health Program for the schools. When complete, the video will be entered in a national competition.
Brooks Benjamin, a faculty member of Midtown Elementary School is producing the film. He is an accomplished film maker and is donating his time to the project.
Cannot wait to see it! Expected completion...May, 2008.
